NEW YORK, NY — Mr. Met’s head has been officially ruled a dead ball. The medical examiner’s determination: suicide, or as one source close to the investigation described it, a squeeze play in the most literal sense.

The body remains stable. Mount Sinai physicians confirmed Sunday that because Mr. Met is, at his core, a baseball head attached to a body, a transplant is possible and is currently underway. He is expected to be cleared to return to the field for the Mets’ next home loss.

He has not been consulted on the new head’s design.
