Mrs. Met Spotted With Former Player Days After Husband's Suicide

The wife of Mr. Met and co-mascot for the Mets organization was spotted holding hands and canoodling at NYC hotspot less than a week after her husband’s tragic demise.

⚠ WELLNESS CHECK REQUIRED. Someone check on Mr. Met again I guess. He's currently undergoing rigorous and painful physical therapy as he adjusts to his new head. This news won't help.

NEW YORK, NY — Barbara Met, née Steinberg, 47, of Long Island City, was seen on Friday night having dinner with John Franco, 65, former Mets pitcher and two-time Rolaids Relief Man Award winner. The two were spotted smiling and holding hands outside Carbone in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Once inside, sources say the two sat on the same side of their booth, shared several short kisses, and at one point mimicked a “Lady and the Tramp” style sharing of Carbone’s famous Tortellini al Ragù.

The night turned sour upon exiting the eatery, when an inebriated man wearing a Darryl Strawberry jersey accosted the couple, threw a glass of wine on them, and ultimately engaged in fisticuffs with Mr. Franco. The police were called and the man was arrested, later identified as Adam Plotch, 43, of Forest Hills, NY.

These events unfolded less than a week after Barbara’s late husband, Mr. Montgomery Met, beloved mascot of the New York Mets, took his own life in his tenement in Long Island City.

Mr. Franco is married. He and his wife Rose have three adult children and live in Montclair, New Jersey.

Correction: A previous version of this article said Carbone’s pasta dish was referred to as “Tortellini Ragù”; the correct menu name is “Tortellini al Ragù.” I mean, this is an important correction. Things could’ve gone very bad if the error remained in this article. Additional lives could’ve been lost even.
